As for the TiVo not understanding what's coming through the coax... IPTV != Cable TV Basically you're using your existing coax as a network cable. ATT's Cisco boxes can work over RJ45 or coax.
You are only partially correct sir. The Tivo is attempting to read the analog streams, which his television has no problem at all reading, but the Tivo refuses to.

The way the MS MediaRoom works there simply are no analog streams. The coax is used because it's already there for 95% of users. If you plug it straight to a TV you get nothing but static. You can also use cat 5 to wire up your boxes and get the same service. Providers have the option of Windows 7 and XBox 360 clients with the soon to be release MR 2.0 ( http://www.microsoft.com/Mediaroom/PR/CES2010.aspx) edit: found a good 'overview' pic of the system. btw, what version of MediaRoom does EPB run (should be able to check it in the options menu).

Just found the difference. "Do I need any special equipment if I sign up for the Basic or Expanded service? No. A set top box is only required if you sign up for the Fi TV Essential package." http://epbfi.com/support/faqs/fi-tv/#topThey only use MediaRoom for the 'Essential' service. Basic and Expanded use a standard analog stream. So we were both right. Also the EPB website states that TiVo series 2 will work but not TiVo series 3. UVerse customers are reporting the same. TiVo s1 and s2 work but not s3.

I should say not! I wonder if EPB has that kind of cap on their data...

Holy bandwidth, Batman!
Downloading the Ubuntu CD on BitTorrent in less than 10 minutes.
3.6 MBps = 28.8 Mbps
Heck, I remember when modems were only 28.8 Kbps. (Yes, I remember before then, too.)

Nice, Phrag.
EPB appears to be close to us, as the road that leads to my neighborhood had someone getting hooked up with Fiber, so it may not be much longer before I get my EPB fix...

Nothing like the good old days of 2400 baud modems hooked up to C64s.
Seriously jealous of that bandwidth though.

A little update. Internet is still great. Really loving the upstream bandwidth. It has definitely improved my ability to work from home! One thing is, though, if you have a TiVo and really like it, don't get EPB TV service. It is incompatible and will likely not be compatible for some time. Honestly, I have quit watching TV since the switch. The DVR and satellite set-top boxes are a great idea, but it's no TiVo by a long, long, LONG shot. Our TiVo used to record all sorts of interesting things for me on all the dorky channels, and it did it automagically. And it had plenty of room for days of HD programming. Now, we don't have enough room for a day's worth of HD, and it only records what we tell it to. I miss my TiVo. I'm really missing all that dorky programming and have turned to less-than-desirable means of getting it.
